Privacy Policy

This page describes exactly what Transcript stores, why, and for how long. It describes the system as actually built, not a generic template.
There are no accounts
We never ask for an email address, a name, or a password, and there is nothing to sign up for. When you first open the site the server generates a random 32-character identifier — your recovery code — and your browser stores it locally. It is not derived from anything about you, and it is the only thing linking you to your transcripts and credits.
Because we hold no other identifier, anyone with your recovery code has your transcripts and credits, and we cannot restore it if you lose it. Keep it somewhere safe.

What we do not do
- We do not collect your email, name, phone number or address.
- We do not see or store your card details. Payments are handled entirely by our payment provider (see below); the card never touches our servers.
- We use no advertising or analytics trackers, and set no tracking cookies. Your recovery code is kept in your browser's local storage because the site needs it to work, not to follow you.
- We do not sell, rent or share your data with anyone for marketing.
- We do not run speech recognition, and we do not download audio or video.
Who else is involved
Creem — our merchant of record. When you buy credits you are sent to Creem's own checkout; they process the payment and are the seller of record. We pass them only your recovery code, the number of credits and the price, so that your balance can be topped up when payment succeeds. Their handling of your payment data is governed by their own privacy policy.
YouTube — when you submit a link, our server requests the publicly available caption file for that video from YouTube. Your IP address is not passed on; the request comes from our server.
Our hosting provider — runs the servers and, like any host, processes traffic on our behalf.
Your rights over your data
Because we hold nothing that identifies you personally, we can only act on a request if you send us the recovery code the data belongs to. With it you can ask us to:
- send you a copy of everything stored against that code;
- delete a specific transcript, or everything under that code.
Write to [email protected]. We will action it within 30 days. Note that deleting a code's data also destroys any unused credit balance attached to it, and we cannot undo that.
If you are in the UK, EU or another region with comparable law, you also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
Where your data is held
Our servers are outside China and may be located in the EU or the United States. Submitting a link means your transcript is stored on those servers.
Children
This service is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly hold data from them.
Changes
If this policy changes materially — particularly anything about what is kept or for how long — the date at the top will change and the new version will be published here before it takes effect.
